PERIOD.ORG: #PeriodPayback
Today, 22 states still tax period products as luxury goods, while Viagra is not taxed. This statistic makes menstrual products expensive and inaccessible for 64% of menstruators in the U.S.
PERIOD.ORG tasked us to create a campaign, #PeriodPayback, to highlight the extra costs people bear for period products. On Period Action Day (October 8th), we trolled the GA, TX, and AR governors who have not taken proactive steps to repeal their state's tampon tax. We sent them thousands of simultaneous payment requests to their public government emails, reflecting the costs associated with the tampon tax. Then, we shared our requests on social media and garnered some P.R. from AdAge.
In addition, we provided PERIOD with protest signs for the Women's March in D.C. on October 8th.
